The education sector in India has grown tenfold in the last decade. And with growth has come competition and confusion. Aspirants face endless struggles to understand which institute offers them the best road to academic success and employability. While an MBA from IIM still holds immense value, many brands have emerged with not only strong names but also proven talents. In such a competitive environment, The Go-Getter and collegecampus2corporate.com have released their 2013-2014 survey results for the top B-schools in the country. All B-schools were invited to participate in the survey and over 150 institutes expressed interest to be a part of this exercise. The All India B-School survey 2014 consists of a participatory and perceptual survey of various stakeholders in management education system. A structured questionnaire was sent to 150+ B-Schools across India. They were short-listed by recognizing the last two years’ rankings done by Go-Getter magazine and by identifying institutions that have emerged in the recent past. The entry criterion of a minimum of two batches passed out by 2013 was kept in order to filter the newly established institutes. Finally, 65 institutes were ranked based on the following parameters: infrastructure, industry interface, placement, entrepreneurship, global exposure, faculty, research and writing, curriculum and pedagogy and so on. Based on the survey, all the B-Schools were ranked under SUPER - LEAGUE, A+++, A++, A+, B+++, B++ and B+ categories. This year the survey continued to show that although IIMs around the country still rule the roost, fresh names have joined the prestigious list. Few of them are SCMS Cochin, Accurate Institute of Management & Technology, Institute of Management Studies, to name a few. The school has been a trendsetter in management education since 1976 and has managed to develop remarkable innovations in its course curriculum. It is important for a B-school to have strong industry interface, not only in terms of placement, but also from the perspective of creating a syllabi that is industry-ready. The survey revealed a huge gap between top institutes like SCMS-Cochin and other institutes when it comes to strengths like consultancy services, faculty to student ratio and strong pedagogy. Faculty industry experience is another strong characteristic of institutes that were ranked amidst the top. A strong research program needs to fully develop in order to keep curriculums up to date and in line with changing trends in education and business. There is a lot of important research being done at B-schools across India. Many of which earned a top placement in the survey. Research also enables an institute to bring forth its faculty strength in national as well as international domain. SCMS-Cochin earned a high ranking for its dynamic business school pedagogy. Focusing on problem solving in various business functions, the institute’s pedagogy includes case studies of teaching, group research projects and real-world simulations. This provides a well-rounded, real-world applicable business education. The institute was also one of the new entrants in the Super League list of six B-schools, placing it amongst the top B-schools in the country. SCMS Cochin has done itself proud by making a place for itself amongst top B Schools in the country in the recent Go-Getter and collegecampus2corporate.com All India B School Survey 2014. There are a few names that often make it to the top of the prestigious surveys like this one, year after year. But SCMS Cochin has managed to break their stranglehold this year. In fact it has gone on to do exceptionally well in some of the crucial categories that were taken into account during the survey. The Go-Getter and collegecampus2corporate.com survey is a participatory and perceptual one that took into account more than 150 management institutes in the country that had minimum two batches graduating before 2013. After thorough authentication, 65 institutes were ranked based on various factors including infrastructure, placement, faculty, research and writing, curriculum and pedagogy, global exposure, industry interface, entrepreneurship and more. It was interesting to see the survey come up with unexpected results. The Go-Getter and collegecampus2corporate.com survey grouped the institutes into different leagues based on their performance in various categories. The Super League was the highest category followed by A+++, A++ and so on. Based on its overall performance in the survey, SCMS Cochin made it to the Super League of management institutes in the country. Thus today it finds its place amongst the heavyweights of management education in India and you can only imagine that it’s the decades of effort that has paid off. The institute has always considered its faculty members as its pillars and this is one category where it has ranked in the top five. This particular ranking category took into account the faculty strength of a B School and the association of the head of departments with the corporate world and foreign universities. Faculty members of an institute are also involved in Research and Writing Category that ranked B Schools based on the priority they give to publication of papers and books. SCMS Cochin was ranked 5th in the category. With senior academicians like Dr. V. Raman Nair, Prof. K.J. Paulose, Dr. Filomina P. George, Dr. C. K. Rajan, Dr. C. Sengottuvelu, etc. SCMS Cochin has been very discreetly building its faculty pool since years now. The institute did brilliantly in the Curriculum and Pedagogy category too as it was ranked amongst the top five B Schools in the country once again. The high rank in the category talks about SCMS Cochin’s readiness to adapt its curriculum according to the changing needs of the industry and using evolving pedagogy to offer the best to students. Throughout its programs, the institute focuses on case studies, Industry Institute Interface sessions with renowned names to ensure that the students get practical experience and exposure to the industry. SCMS Cochin is already considered to be a top management school in Kerala and it has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 1976. But its success in the recent survey is quite startling and speaks volumes of the giant strides the management institute has managed to take in recent times. It’s a reflection on several of the initiatives carried out by the institute on a regular basis, which ensure that it keeps up with its mission of offering cutting edge management education to students.
